Towards Leveling the Playing Field for Women in Academia

We can highly recommend The Conversation article Higher Ed needs to get rid of the gender gap for 'academic housekeeping'
posted on 27 September 2017 by Cassandra Guarino, Professor of Education and Public Policy, Graduate School of Education, University of California, Riverside summarising her research on the routine and unpaid tasks performed by tenured and tenure-track faculty members at two public research campuses in midwestern USA. She found that women faculty performed considerable more service duties than men and this was detected across all fields and departments. How much this sidetracks women's careers has yet to be determined however its logical to assume that there will be some disadvantage with earlier research suggesting that academic service generally counts less in promotion and tenure than either teaching or research.
